Cugino low stool/coffee table is the result of the interaction between German talents Konstantin Grcic and MATTIAZZI to produce exquisite wood craftsmanship. They use the interlaced visual effects of space and structure to polish the details of the work to the most satisfactory angle, embodying that "it is both a chair and a low table. The possibility of not defining a work by its preset functionality. The neat "V" seen from the front perspective highlights Konstantin's insistence on originality and his understanding of architectural structure integrated into the work.
After the Russo-Ukrainian War, at the supply chain end, it was very difficult to obtain raw materials for oak wood and the cost soared. Cugino's original design used very thick oak to interpret the character and unique beauty of this product. Designer Konstantin Grcic wanted to maintain the original design but uncompromisingly combine high-quality materials with a more competitive price, so he developed the Cugino Soft alternative.
Cugino Soft uses spruce wood (European white pine) used for roof trusses in house construction. It has completely different characteristics from the original designed Cugino oak model. Cugino Soft may not be as noble as oak, but it is relatively lightweight and has a light wood grain. Cugino Soft's wood can not only be obtained locally in Italy, but can also grow quickly and in large quantities. More importantly, Cugino Soft can faithfully interpret the table and aesthetics of Cugino's original design. The round chair surface can also be matched with linoleum material to create color changes. In other words, Cugino Soft is not only a series of Cugino products, but it can also show a different style from the original design.
Konstantin Grcic began to practice what he learned in 1991 and became a co-designer for the world's leading brands. He takes "aesthetics" as the main appeal of his works, focusing on the relationship between works, people and the environment, and uses the designer's sensitivity and strictness. The implementation of construction methods, combined with a little sense of humor, never limits himself to typical designs, and his passion for technology and materials is reflected in every detail.
