The VL 56 chandelier was designed by the well-known functionalist architect Vilhelm Lauritzen for Folkets Hus, a public building in Copenhagen. The building was originally built in 1956 as a venue for Danish laborers, and is now transformed into the Vega Concert Hall. The building is a holistic art building, which means all the designs in the building, including doorknobs, stairs , power sockets to furniture , lamps, are all made by Lauritzen.

The original VL 56 chandelier was discontinued in 1981 in silver and in 1984 in gold. The column above the lampshade of the new version of the VL 56 chandelier is slightly different from the original design. The original design has a matte surface, and the chandelier wires are shorter and wrapped within the lampshade cylinder. The new version of VL 56 adopts a uniform polished surface design, injecting more contemporary style into it.

The VL56 chandelier is one of the lamps designed by Vilhelm Lauritzen for the Vega Concert Hall. It is currently suspended in the wooden-decorated bar adjacent to the adjacent concert hall. After product adjustments and upgrades, brass and aluminum polished chrome versions will be relaunched in 2023 .

The VL 56 chandelier can emit light directly downward without glare. The radial perforation design around the lampshade opening, with 8 rows of 90 in each row, a total of 720 tiny perforations, creates a softer light transition between light and dark. The perforations in the lampshade simultaneously create soft light and shadow on the lamp’s curves and peripheral surfaces.

When purchasing, please note that the brass surface of this lamp has not been treated with anti-oxidation, and the lamp will produce different oxidation conditions over time and climate conditions.
