PIPAIO is the second work launched by designer Julie Richoz in collaboration with Mattiazzi after the Portobello bowl. Each element of the PIPAIO side table balances each other to form a lively composition – and the process behind it relies on a lot of perfect craftsmanship to make it look light and effortless. PIPAIO uses fine craftsmanship, from wood selection to surface polishing, all steps are to show the beauty of solid wood, let the original wood grain exude its unique characteristics, and at the same time produce visual layer changes through light and shadow, and these It is composed of three elements: a cone, a stick and a bowl.
When first making the model, Julie Richoz was inspired by ancient Egyptian furniture, art decoration and modern wooden children's toys. The base of PIPAIO looks like the first work designed by Julie Richoz. Portobello turned it upside down, with the legs cut into three sections like a broom and paired with a round chair and stool base. These elements become very interesting, light and full of surprises when combined. At first glance, it looks like a waiter opening his fingers to hold a plate. Julie Richoz is very interested in the possibility of flexible use of the work. When designing the size of PIPAIO, in addition to being placed on the floor, it can also be placed on other furniture. Julie Richoz even imagined placing PIPAIO on the counter of a bar or hotel as a welcome fruit. The geometric lines of the side table make the whole look like a bouquet. The round recess on the tabletop can be used to place small items, and PIPAIO can also be used as a small table beside the bed.
