The OE Quasi chandelier was designed by Icelandic/Danish artist Olafur Eliasson, whose expertise spans many fields such as installation art, painting, sculpture, photography and filmmaking. Since 1997, Olafur Eliasson has held solo exhibitions in well-known museums around the world. He has also devoted part of his efforts to policy formulation such as education, environmental sustainability and climate change. Eliasson is also involved in the design of installation art in public spaces, including New York City Waterfalls and Your rainbow panorama in Denmark.
The OE chandelier is Olafur Eliasson's first cross-border collaboration with a lighting manufacturer. It consists of two distinct but interconnected geometric shapes . The outer layer is a (geometric) icosahedral frame made of hard aluminum metal with a total of 20 triangular pyramidal faces . The inner layer is a polycarbonate reflector lamp with a (geometric) dodecahedron design, a total of 12 pentagons , creating a visual effect as if it is floating on the outer frame.
The inner geometric dodecahedron of the chandelier is equipped with 12 LED bulbs, allowing light to be projected along the edge of the inner lampshade, while also creating an evenly distributed lighting effect for the reflector light at the core of the chandelier. White-level reflectors project spherical light into the space, creating a glare-free and uniformly distributed light source.
Olafur Eliasson hopes to design products that can be used for a long time and will not cause environmental burden. Just like all Louis Poulsen products, once consumers buy them, they will keep them forever. 90% of the aluminum metal of the OE chandelier is recycled and reused. Even if the chandelier is disassembled in the future, other parts can be fully recycled.
