The classic work of the well-known Danish lighting designer Poul Henningsen − PH 5 lamp.
It debuted in an exhibition at the Danish Art Museum in Copenhagen in 1958. Since the lamp has a diameter of 50 centimeters, it was named PH 5.
The design of PH 5 uses four main lampshades, plus two small mini lampshades to stack and cover the bulbs. The multi-layered lampshade design pioneers the indirect transmission of light sources, so that users will not look directly at the light source. A method to achieve glare-free lighting; in addition, the principle of equiangular spirals is also used. The light will glide on the lampshade at the same incident angle, and then the warm and refreshing light will be reflected from the bottom of the lamp.
When designing the PH 5 lamp, red and purple mini lampshades were installed on the inside of the lamp. Without affecting the external vision, optical principles were used to incorporate light colors that are not easily detectable by the human eye, and to create a satisfactory soft light.
The reason why Henningsen emphasizes the softness of light is precisely because he believes that "the most beautiful moment of the day is dusk." The role of lamps is to extend the light of dusk into daily life. It is said that the elegantly curved shade of the PH lamp was inspired by a set of stacked cups, bowls and plates.
In 2018, PH 5 has added a special style of luxurious retro style, which is based on classic white and combined with retro copper luster, bringing a new interpretation of classic works to PH 5.
