The Pigreco single chair is one of the iconic design works of the famous Italian architect Tobia Scarpa. Pursue the best proportion between three-dimensional and blank spaces, while perfectly integrating straight lines and curves. Every feature of this chair conveys one of the original design ideas – to give taste to a space through an aesthetic static object.

The Pigreco side chair was originally published in 1959 and is Tobia Scarpa's first furniture design work after graduating from the Department of Architecture at the University of Venice. It is also the first single chair designed by an architect in Italy. In 2021, Italian furniture brand Tacchini will This single chair is exclusively back on the market and officially presented at the Milan Design Fair. The classic reproduction of the Pigreco side chair is still loyal to the original design in 1959. It uses new materials and construction methods to make Pigreco more integrated into modern Italian space design.

A pair of adjacent legs in the center of the chair back highlights the triangular base and outlines its dynamic mechanics. On the premise of aesthetic appearance, it provides an uncompromising and stable foundation for the seat. The curved chair back made of five layers of compressed and stacked curved wood demonstrates the difficult craftsmanship. The clearly visible texture of the wood section highlights the unique aesthetics of the single chair.

In order to make up for the inherent structural shortcomings of the triangular chair and ensure the safety and stability of the chair itself, Scarpa started from the concept of a four-legged chair and through geometric experiments, created this seat that combines a triangular base and a semi-circular arc shape. . The sister legs (sister legs) structure separated by a narrow gap in the center of the chair back are connected to each other with ingenious wooden joints to provide a more stable structural safety for the seat. They are the two most representative features of the Pigreco single chair.

The Pigreco side chair looks stable, but is actually quite lightweight. for The meticulous craftsmanship of every detail creates its low-key, simple and distinctive style design, and the exquisite and advanced craftsmanship behind it is self-evident.

Pigreco's design concept can be said to be a combination of minimalism and sophisticated thinking, finding a perfect balance between geometry and interlaced lines. Its silhouette fully demonstrates Scarpa's approach to treating furniture as a small architectural design, and the unique ingenuity is clearly visible in the design of this single chair. Looking back at the original design in 1959, Scarpa asked himself whether the work of that year could still be improved. Scarpa himself believed that the original design still looks classic, timeless and impeccable today.
